New Orleans Jewish women made major contributions in the arts—as artists, photographers, curators, art historians, collectors, and of course, as promoters of others, especially in the field of music. Art has traditionally been a field that was acceptable for women, falling somewhere under the rubric of care for others. The presence within the city of the strong art curriculum at Newcomb College, where six of the eight women featured below attended, also helped in cementing the place that Jewish women played in the arts.
